قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةً مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

He said, ‘I perceived what they perceived not. I only partly received the impress of the Messenger, but that too I cast away. Thus it is that my mind commended to me.’

English - Five Volume Translation

He said, ‘I perceived what they perceived not. I only partly received the impress of the Messenger (Moses), but that too I cast away. Thus it is that my mind commended to me.’[2309]

Important Words:

بصرت (I perceived) is from بصر (basura). They say بصرہ او به i.e. he perceived it; he knew it; he saw it. أبصرہ means, he saw it or him, by the sight of the eye; or he looked at him or towards him or it trying whether he could see him or not. أبصر also means, he relinquished infidelity and adopted the true belief. أبصر الطریق means, the way became manifest (Lane & Aqrab). See also 6:104 & 7:204.

Commentary:

The words I perceived that which they did not perceive mean, "My mental perception was clearer than that of the Israelites". The Samiri means to say that he had followed Moses and had accepted his teachings intelligently and not blindly like them and that his object in doing so was that he should become the leader of his people. So when the proper occasion arrived and Moses went to the Mount, he threw away the cloak of expediency and discarded what little of his teachings he had accepted and that was what his mind suggested to him.

English - Short Commentary Translation

He said, ‘I perceived what they perceived not.[1847] I had only adopted part of what the Messenger (Moses) inculcated, but I threw even that away. Thus it is that my mind commended to me.’

The words may also mean, 'My mental perception was clearer than that of the Israelites.' The Samiri means to say that he had followed Moses and had accepted his teachings intelligently and not blindly like them. But when Moses went to the Mount, he threw away the cloak of expediency and discarded what little of his teachings (athar, meaning remains or relics of knowledge transmitted or handed down from the former generations, i.e. teachings) he had accepted and that was what his mind suggested to him.

اس نے کہا میں نے وہ بات جان لی تھی جسے یہ نہیں پا سکے۔ تو میں نے رسول کے نقشِ قدم سے کچھ اپنا لیا پھر اسے پھینک دیا اور میرے نفس نے میرے لئے یہی کچھ اچھا کرکے دکھایا۔

Il répondit : « Moi, j’ai perçu ce qu’ils ne percevaient pas. Je n’avais adopté que partiellement l’enseignement du Messager Moïse, mais j’ai renoncé à cela aussi. C’est ainsi que mon esprit m’en a persuadé. »

Er sprach: "Ich gewahrte, was sie nicht gewahren konnten. Ich nahm nur weniges von der Lehre des Gesandten (Moses) an, aber ich gab auch das auf. Das ist´s, was mir mein Sinn vortäuschte."

他说: “我看见了一些他们所未看见的。我接受了这位使者一部分的教义, 后来 (我把已接受的教义也) 抛弃了。我的心灵命令我做了我所已做的。”

Él respondió: “Yo comprendí lo que ellos no comprendían.Sólo recibí en parte la huella del Mensajero, pero también la tiré. Esto es pues, lo que mi mente me sugirió”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اس نے کہا‘ میں نے وہ کچھ دیکھا جو ان لوگوں نے نہیں دیکھا تھا اور میں نے اس رسول (یعنی موسیٰ) کی باتوں میں سے کچھ اختیار کر لیں[1] (اور کچھ اختیار نہ کیں) پھر (جب موقعہ آیا تو) میں نے ان (اختیار کی ہوئی باتوں) کو بھی پھینک دیا اور میرے دل نے یہی چیز مجھے اچھی کرکے دکھائی تھی۔

مفسرین کہتے ہیں کہ سامری نے یہ کہا تھا کہ میں نے جبرائیل کو دیکھ لیا تھا اور اس کے گھوڑے کے پاؤں کی مٹی اٹھالی تھی اس سے یہ بچھڑا تیار کیا تھا۔ مگر قرآن مجید میں رسول کا لفظ ہے جس سے موسیٰ علیہ السلام مراد ہیں اور اَثر سے مراد بات یا سنت ہے جیسا کہ لغت سے ثابت ہے (اقرب) سامری نے فقط یہ کہا تھا کہ پہلے میں نے اس رسول یعنی موسٰیؑ کی تعلیم کو اختیار کر لیا تھا۔ پھر جب موقع مناسب دیکھا کہ موسٰیؑ تردید کرنے کے لئے موجودنہیں تو اس تعلیم کو پھینک دیا۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اس نے جواب دیا "میں نے وہ چیز دیکھی جو اِن لوگوں کو نظر نہ آئی، پس میں نے رسُول کے نقش قدم سے ایک مٹھی اٹھا لی اور اُس کو ڈال دیا میرے نفس نے مجھے کچھ ایسا ہی سجھایا"

English - Sahih

He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me."

کہا میں نے وہ چیز دیکھی تھی جو دوسروں نے نہ دیکھی پھر میں نے رسول کے نقشِ قدم کی ایک مٹھی مٹی میں لے کر ڈال دی اور میرے دل نے مجھے ایسی ہی بات سوجھائی

He said, "I perceived what not they perceive, in it, so I took a handful from (the) track (of) the Messenger then threw it, and thus suggested to me my soul."
