وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۚ وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَلَّوْا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَٰرِهِمْ نُفُورًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And We put coverings over their hearts lest they should understand it, and in their ears a deafness. And when thou makest mention in the Qur’an of thy Lord alone, they turn their backs in aversion.

Commentary:

It has been made abundantly clear elsewhere in the Quran that the "coverings" over the hearts of disbelievers and the "deafness" in their ears are of their own creation. It is the result of their own perversity and wrongdoing (2:27, 28 & 47:25). Disbelievers, in fact, are the architects of their own evil destiny.

The words, when thou makest mention in the Quran of thy Lord alone, mean that disbelievers cannot discard the coverings over their hearts because the mention of the Unity and Oneness of God is so repugnant to them that they turn their backs in aversion and refuse to listen when it is being mentioned.

17:49.

It is the covering of malice and envy, or that of a false sense of dignity and racial pride or of the fear of loss of social position and income, or the covering of a longstanding custom and belief fondly and firmly held that stands in the way of the acceptance of truth by disbelievers. It is a subtle covering which disbelievers themselves do not properly perceive.

اور ہم اُن کے دلوں پر پردے ڈال دیتے ہیں کہ وہ اُسے سمجھ نہ سکیں اور اُن کے کانوں میں بوجھ۔ اور جب تُو قرآن میں اپنے ربّ ِ یگانہ کا ذکر کرتا ہے تو وہ نفرت سے پیٹھ پھیرتے ہوئے پلٹ جاتے ہیں۔

Et sur leurs cœurs Nous avons tiré des couvertures, de sorte qu’ils ne le comprennent pas, et dans leurs oreilles Nous avons mis une surdité. Et lorsque dans le Coran tu fais mention de Ton Seigneur, Lui Seul, ils tournent le dos avec aversion.

und Wir legen Hüllen auf ihre Herzen, so dass sie ihn nicht verstehen, und in ihre Ohren Taubheit. Und wenn du in der Lesung deinen Herrn nennst, Ihn allein, so wenden sie ihre Rücken im Widerwillen.

Sui loro cuori Noi abbiamo steso coltri perché non lo capiscano e sulle loro orecchie abbiamo inflitto sordità. E quando tu fai menzione nel Corano del tuo Unico Dio, essi volgono le spalle con avversione.

Y colocamos cubiertas sobre sus corazones, de manera que no lo comprenden, y provocamos la sordera en sus oídos. Y cuando mencionas en el Corán a tu Señor el Único, vuelven las espaldas desdeñosamente.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہم ان کے دلوں پر کئی پردے ڈال دیتے ہیں تا کہ وہ اس (سچائی) کو سمجھ نہ [1]سکیں اور ان کے کانوں میں بہرا پن (پیدا کر دیا) ہے اور جب تو قرآن میں اپنے رب کو جو ایک ہی ہے یاد کرتا ہے تو وہ نفرت سے اپنی پیٹھیں پھیر کر چل پڑتے ہیں۔

یعنی چونکہ ان کے دل گندے ہیں ہم اسلام قبول کرنے سے ان کو روکتے ہیں تا ان کی بداعمالی کی وجہ سے اسلام بدنام ’’نہ‘‘ ہو۔ نہ کا حرف ہم نے اس لئے بڑھایا ہے کہ عربی کے قاعدہ کے مطابق حسب موقع اَنْ کے بعد لَا یعنی نہ کا حرف محذوف سمجھ لیا جاتا ہے۔

اور ان کے دلوں پر ایسا غلاف چڑھا دیتے ہیں کہ وہ کچھ نہیں سمجھتے، اور ان کے کانوں میں گرانی پیدا کر دیتے ہیں اور جب تم قرآن میں اپنے ایک ہی رب کا ذکر کرتے ہو تو وہ نفرت سے منہ موڑ لیتے ہیں

English - Sahih

And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Qur'an, they turn back in aversion.

اور ہم نے ان کے دلو ں پر پردے کر دیے ہیں تاکہ اسے نہ سمجھیں اور ان کے کانوں میں گرانی ڈال دی ہے اور جب تو قرآن میں صرف اپنے رب ہی کا ذکر کرتا ہے تو پیٹھ پھیر کر کفرت سے بھاگتے ہیں
