قَالُوا۟ جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥ مَن وُجِدَ فِى رَحْلِهِۦ فَهُوَ جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

They replied, ‘The punishment for it — he in whose saddlebag it is found shall himself be the penalty for it. Thus do we punish the wrongdoers.’

English - Five Volume Translation

They replied, ‘The punishment for it—he in whose saddlebag it is found shall himself be the penalty for it. Thus do we punish wrongdoers.’[1575]

Commentary:

It was so devised by God that Joseph’s brothers in a fit of excitement themselves suggested that he in whose sack the measuring cup might be found should be detained to explain his conduct. If they had said instead that he who was proved to be the thief should be kept as a prisoner, Joseph would have had no ground to detain his brother, for he knew that he was not a thief. But the words which escaped the lips of his brothers were that Joseph might detain him in whose sack the measuring cup was found. Thus Joseph was able to keep back his brother without the latter being accused of theft.

English - Short Commentary Translation

They replied, ‘The punishment for it—he in whose saddle-bag it is found shall himself be the penalty for[1395] it. Thus do we punish wrongdoers.’

Joseph’s brothers, in a fit of excitement, themselves suggested that he in whose sack the measuring-vessel might be found should be detained to explain his conduct. Thus Joseph was able to keep back his brother without the latter having been accused of theft.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

انہوں نے جواب دیا اس کی جزا یہ ہے کہ جس کے سامان میں وہ (پیمانہ) پایا جائے وہی اس کی جزا ہوگا۔ اسی طرح ہم ظالموں کو جزا دیاکرتے ہیں۔

Ils répondirent : « La punition pour cela - celui dans la sacoche de qui elle sera retrouvée en sera lui-même la rétribution. C’est ainsi que nous châtions les injustes. »

Sie antworteten: "Die Strafe dafür sei: der, in dessen Satteltasche er gefunden wird, soll selbst Entgelt dafür sein. Also lohnen wir den Übeltätern."

他们 (回答) 说: “对于这个的惩罚是: 在谁的鞍囊中被发现了它 (遗失物), 他自己将会遭受 (自己行为的) 惩罚。我们就这样惩罚不义的人。”

Essi risposero: «La punizione per questo: colui nella cui bisaccia verrà trovata, pagherà con la sua stessa persona. Così puniamo i malfattori.»

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

انہوں نے کہا (کہ) اس کی سزا یہ ہے کہ جس شخص کے سامان میں وہ (برتن) پایا جائے وہ (خود ہی) اس (فعل) کا بدلہ ہو ہم (لوگ) ظالموں کو اسی طرح سزا دیا کرتے ہیں۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اُنہوں نے کہا "اُس کی سزا؟ جس کے سامان میں سے چیز نکلے وہ آپ ہی اپنی سزا میں رکھ لیا جائے، ہمارے ہاں تو ایسے ظالموں کو سزا دینے کا یہی طریقہ ہے"

English - Sahih

[The brothers] said, "Its recompense is that he in whose bag it is found - he [himself] will be its recompense. Thus do we recompense the wrongdoers."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

انہوں نے کہا اس کی سزا یہ ہے کہ جس کےاسباب میں سے پایا جائے پس وہی اس کے بدلہ میں جائے ہم ظالموں کو یہی سزا دیتے ہیں

They said, "Its recompense (is that one) who, it is found in his bag, then he (will be) his recompense. Thus (do) we recompense the wrongdoers."

They said, 'This shall be its recompense -- in whoever's saddlebag the goblet is found, he shall be its recompense. So we recompense the evildoers.'

English - Maududi

They replied: "He in whose saddlebag the cup is found, he himself shall be its recompense." Thus do we punish the wrong-doers.

English - Ahmed Ali

"The punishment for that (should be)," they said, "that he in whose luggage it is found should be held as punishment. This is how we repay the wrong-doers."

English - Yusuf Ali

They said: "The penalty should be that he in whose saddle-bag it is found, should be held (as bondman) to atone for the (crime). Thus it is we punish the wrong-doers!"
