فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَٰنَ أَسِفًا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَن يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِى

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

So Moses returned to his people indignant and sad. He said, ‘O my people, did not your Lord promise you a gracious promise? Did, then, the appointed time appear too long to you, or did you desire that wrath should descend upon you from your Lord, that you broke your promise to me?’

English - Five Volume Translation

So [b]Moses returned to his people indignant and sorrowful. He said, ‘O my people, did not your Lord promise you a gracious promise? Did, then, the appointed time appear too long to you, or did you desire that wrath should descend upon you from your Lord, that you broke your promise to me?’[2300]

7:151.

Commentary:

موعدی (my promise) means, the promise which you made to me, or the promise which God made to you through me.

English - Short Commentary Translation

So [b]Moses returned to his people, angry and sad, and he said, ‘O my people, did not your Lord promise you a gracious promise? Did, then, the time of its fulfilment appear too long to you, or did you desire that wrath should descend upon you from your Lord, that you broke your promise to me?’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تب موسیٰ اپنی قوم کی طرف سخت غصے اور افسوس کی حالت میں واپس لوٹا۔ اس نے کہا اے میری قوم! کیا تمہارے ربّ نے تم سے ایک بہت اچھا وعدہ نہیں کیا تھا پھر کیا تم پر عہد کی مدت بہت طویل ہوگئی یا تم یہ تہیہ کر چکے تھے کہ تم پر تمہارے ربّ کا غضب نازل ہو؟ پس تم نے میرے ساتھ کئے ہوئے عہد کے برخلاف کیا۔

French

Alors Moïse, indigné et attristé, retourna vers son peuple. Il dit : « Ô mon peuple, votre Seigneur ne vous a-t-Il pas fait une belle promesse ? Est-ce donc que le temps fixé vous a paru long, ou désiriez-vous que le courroux de votre Seigneur descendît sur vous, puisque vous avez violé votre engagement envers moi ? »

German

Da kehrte Moses zu seinem Volke zurück, zornig und bekümmert. Er sprach: "O mein Volk, hat euer Herr euch nicht eine schöne Verheißung gegeben? Erschien euch etwa die anberaumte Zeit zu lang, oder wolltet ihr, dass Zorn von eurem Herrn auf euch niederfahre, dass ihr das Versprechen gegen mich brachet?"

[b]穆撒愤慨、悲伤地回见自己族人, 说: “我的族人啊! 难道你们的养主未曾对你们做过好的诺言? 你们觉得诺言 (的实现时期) 太长了吗? 或者你们想遭受你们养主的愤怒而违背了对我的诺言吗?”

7:151.

Italian

Allora Mosè tornò dal suo popolo indignato e triste, e disse: «O mio popolo, il vostro Signore non vi aveva fatto una bella promessa? Vi è parso dunque Risposero: «Non siamo venuti meno alla promessa fatta a te di nostra iniziativa; ma eravamo sovraccarichi di pesanti ornamenti del popolo, perciò li gettammo via e così fece il Samiri.»

Spanish

Entonces Moisés volvió a su pueblo indignado y triste y dijo: “Oh pueblo mío, ¿acaso no os prometió vuestro Señor una promesa digna? ¿Habéis considerado pues que el plazo fijado era demasiado largo, o deseabais que la cólera de vuestro Señor descendiera sobre vosotros, y por eso quebrantasteis la promesa que me hicisteis?”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اس پر موسیٰ اپنی قوم کی طرف غصے سے بھرے ہوئے افسردہ لوٹ گئے (اور اپنی قوم سے) کہا‘ اے میری قوم! کیا تمہارے رب نے تم سے ایک اچھا وعدہ نہیں کیا تھا۔ کیا اس وعدہ کے پورا ہونے میں کوئی دیر ہو گئی تھی یا تم چاہتے تھے کہ تم پر تمہارے رب کی طرف سے کوئی غضب نازل ہو‘ سو تم نے میرے وعدہ کو رد کر دیا۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

موسیٰؑ سخت غصّے اور رنج کی حالت میں اپنی قوم کی طرف پلٹا جا کر اُس نے کہا "اے میری قوم کے لوگو، کیا تمہارے رب نے تم سے اچھے وعدے نہیں کیے تھے؟ کیا تمہیں دن لگ گئے ہیں؟ یا تم اپنے رب کا غضب ہی اپنے اوپر لانا چاہتے تھے کہ تم نے مجھ سے وعدہ خلافی کی؟"

English - Sahih

So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

پھر موسیٰ اپنی قوم کی طرف غصہ میں بھرے ہوئے افسوس کرتے ہوئے لوٹے کہا اے میری قوم کیا تمہارے رب نے تم سے اچھا وعدہ نہیں کیا تھا پھر کیا تم پر بہت زمانہ گزر گیا تھا یا تم نے چاہا کہ تم پر تمہارے رب کا غصہ نازل ہو تب تم نے مجھ سے وعدہ خلافی کی

Then Musa returned to his people angry (and) sorrowful. He said, "O my people! Did not promise you your Lord a promise good? Then, did seem long to you the promise, or did you desire that descend upon you (the) Anger of your Lord, so you broke (the) promise to me?"

Then Moses returned very angry and sorrowful to his people, saying, 'My people, did your Lord not promise a fair promise to you? Did the time of the covenant seem so long to you, or did you desire that anger should alight on you from your Lord, so that you failed in your tryst with me?'

Moses returned to his people full of wrath and grief, and said: "My people! Has your Lord not made good an excellent promise He made to you? And has a long time passed since those promises were fulfilled? Or was it to incur the wrath of your Lord that you broke your promise with me?"

So Moses returned to his people full of anger and regret. "O my people," he said, "did not your Lord make you a better promise? Did the time of covenant seem too long to you? Or did you wish the wrath of your Lord to fall upon you that you broke the promise you had made to me?"
