وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ ضَلَّ مَن تَدْعُونَ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ ۖ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ أَعْرَضْتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ كَفُورًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And when harm touches you on the sea, all those whom you call upon, except Him, become lost to you. But when He brings you safe to land, you turn aside; and man is very ungrateful.

English - Five Volume Translation

[a]And when harm touches you on the sea, all those whom you call upon, except Him, become lost to you. But when He brings you safe to land, you turn aside; and man is very ungrateful.[1997]

Commentary:

Such is the nature of man that when he is in distress, he becomes humble and prays to God and promises and vows to lead a virtuous life if he were to regain his lost peace of mind. But when the danger is over, he is as arrogant and boastful as ever. The verse, in fact, embodies a warning for Muslims that they should not forget God in their days of prosperity so that He may not forget them in their time of adversity.

English - Short Commentary Translation

[d]And when harm touches you on the sea, all those whom you call upon, except Him, are lost to you. But when He brings you safe to land, you turn aside; and man is very ungrateful.[1634]

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور جب تمہیں سمندر میں کوئی تکلیف پہنچتی ہے تو اُس کے سوا ہر وہ ذات جسے تم بلاتے ہو ساتھ چھوڑ جاتی ہے۔ پھر جب وہ تمہیں خشکی کی طرف بچا کر لے جاتا ہے تو تم (اُس سے) اِعراض کرتے ہو۔ اور انسان بہت ہی ناشکرا ہے۔

French

Et quand le malheur vous touche en mer, tous ceux que vous invoquez, sauf Lui, sont perdus pour vous. Mais quand Il vous ramène sains et saufs à terre, vous vous détournez ; et l’homme est très ingrat.

German

Und wenn euch auf dem Meere ein Unheil trifft: verloren sind jene, die ihr anruft statt Ihn. Hat Er euch aber ans Land gerettet, dann kehrt ihr euch ab, denn der Mensch ist undankbar.

[b]当你们在海洋中遭逢灾难时, (你们的脑海中) 除了他 (安拉) 以外, 你们所召唤的 (其他一切崇拜对象) 都化为乌有。可是当他把你们解救到陆地上时, 你们便又背离了他; 人是很辜负主恩的。

E quando il pericolo vi tocca sul mare, tutti quelli che voi chiamate in aiuto scompaiono, eccetto Lui. Ma quando Egli vi riporta sani e salvi alla terra, vi allontanate da Lui. L'uomo è molto ingrato.

Spanish

Y cuando os azota la adversidad en el mar, todos aquellos a quienes invocáis, excepto Él, desaparecen para vosotros. Pero cuando Él os lleva seguros a tierra, os apartáis; pues el hombre es muy desagradecido.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور جب سمندر میں (طغیانی پیدا ہونے کی وجہ سے) تمہیں تکلیف پہنچے تو اس کے سوا (دوسرے وجود) جن کو تم پکارتے ہو (تمہارے ذہنوں سے) غائب ہو جاتے ہیں۔ پھر جب وہ تمہیں بچا کر خشکی پر لاتا ہے تو تم (اس کی طرف سے) اعراض کر لیتے ہو اور انسان بہت ہی ناشکر گذار ہے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

جب سمندر میں تم پر مصیبت آتی ہے تو اُس ایک کے سوا دوسرے جن جن کو تم پکارا کرتے ہو وہ سب گم ہو جاتے ہیں، مگر جب وہ تم کو بچا کر خشکی پر پہنچا دیتا ہے تو تم اُس سے منہ موڑ جاتے ہو انسان واقعی بڑا ناشکرا ہے

English - Sahih

And when adversity touches you at sea, lost are [all] those you invoke except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away [from Him]. And ever is man ungrateful.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور جب تم پر دریا میں کوئی مصیبت آتی ہے تو بھول جاتے ہو جنہیں الله کے سوا پکارتے تھےپھر جب وہ تمہیں خشکی کی طرف بچا لاتا ہے تو تم اس سے منہ موڑ لیتے ہو اور انسان بڑا ہی ناشکرا ہے

And when touches you the hardship in the sea, lost (are) who you call except Him Alone. But when He delivers you to the land you turn away. And is man ungrateful.
