قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ كَشْفَ ٱلضُّرِّ عَنكُمْ وَلَا تَحْوِيلًا

Say, ‘Call on those whom you think to be gods beside Him; then you will know that they have no power to remove affliction from you or to avert it.

[a]Say, ‘Call on those whom you think to be gods beside Him’; then you will know that they have no power to remove affliction from you or to avert it.[1986]

Commentary

In this verse idolaters are told that they can judge the truth or falsity of their faith from the prophecies that foretell their destruction and the eventual triumph of Islam. Let them pray to their gods to save them if they can from the threatened Divine punishment. Far from saving their votaries from Divine punishment, these gods do not possess the power even to postpone or defer it for a single day. While idolaters are admonished that idolatry is at the root of all their misfortunes Muslims are warned that idolatry will bring about their downfall also. It is worthy of note that one of the major causes of the decline, downfall and destruction of the Abbasid Empire of Baghdad was that Muslim nobles freely married Turkish and Iranian idolatrous women. This led to the growth and spread of idolatrous beliefs among Muslims. Ibn Muqanna‘ and Hasan bin Sabbah were the product of the idolatrous ideas and practices that were rampant in those days among Muslims.

[g]Say, ‘Call on those whom you assert to be gods beside Him; then you will know that they have no power to remove affliction from you nor to change your condition.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تُو کہہ دے پکارو اُن لوگوں کو جنہیں تم اُس کے سوا گمان کیا کرتے تھے۔ پس وہ تم سے تکلیف دور کرنے کی کوئی طاقت نہیں رکھتے اور نہ اسے تبدیل کرنے کی۔

French

Dis : « Faites appel à ceux que vous pensez être des dieux en dehors de Lui ; vous saurez alors qu’ils n’ont aucun pouvoir pour vous enlever une affliction, ou pour l’écarter.

German

Sprich: "Rufet doch die an, die ihr neben Ihm wähnet; sie haben keine Macht, das Unheil von euch zu nehmen noch abzuwenden."

[d]你 (对他们) 说: “召唤除他 (安拉) 以外你们所硬说的那些崇拜对象! (你们将会知道,) 他们不掌握解除你们痛苦的任何权力, 也不具有改变 (你们情况) 的任何力量。”

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو (انہیں) کہہ (کہ) جن لوگوں کے متعلق تمہارا دعویٰ ہے کہ وہ اس کے سوا الوہیت رکھتے ہیں انہیں (اپنی مدد کے لئے) پکارو (تو تمہیں معلوم ہو جائے گا کہ) نہ وہ (تمہاری کسی) تکلیف کو تم سے دور کرنے کا اختیار رکھتے ہیں اور نہ (تمہاری حالت میں) کوئی تبدیلی پیدا کرنے کی (طاقت رکھتے ہیں) ۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اِن سے کہو، پکار دیکھو اُن معبودوں کو جن کو تم خدا کے سوا (اپنا کارساز) سمجھتے ہو، وہ کسی تکلیف کو تم سے نہ ہٹا سکتے ہیں نہ بدل سکتے ہیں

English - Sahih

Say, "Invoke those you have claimed [as gods] besides Him, for they do not possess the [ability for] removal of adversity from you or [for its] transfer [to someone else]."

کہہ دو انہیں پکارو جنہیں تم اس کے سوا سمجھتے ہو وہ نہ تمہاری تکلیف دور کر سکیں گے اور نہ اسے بدلیں گے
