They said, ‘O Noah, thou hast indeed disputed with us long and hast disputed with us many a time; bring us now that with which thou threatenest us, if thou art of those who speak the truth.’

English - Five Volume Translation

They said, ‘O Noah, [a]thou hast indeed disputed with us long and hast disputed with us many a time; bring us now what thou threatenest us with, if thou art of those who speak the truth.’[1414]

English - Short Commentary Translation

They said, ‘O Noah, [c]thou hast indeed disputed with us and disputed long and often; bring us now what thou threatenest us with, if thou art of the truthful.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

انہوں نے کہا اے نوح ! تو نے ہم سے جھگڑا کیا اور ہم سے جھگڑنے میں بہت بڑھ گیا۔ پس اب تُو ہمارے پاس وہ لے آ جس کا تو ہمیں ڈراوا دیتا ہے اگر تو سچوں میں سے ہے۔

French

Ils dirent : « Ô Noé, tu as discuté longuement avec nous et en fait tu as ainsi discuté avec nous à maintes reprises. Amène-nous donc maintenant ce dont tu nous menaces, si tu es du nombre des véridiques. »

German

Sie sprachen: "O Noah, du hast schon mit uns gehadert und gar lange mit uns gehadert; so bring uns denn her, was du uns androhst, wenn du zu den Wahrhaften gehörst."

他们说: “努哈啊! [e]你已同我们作了辩论, 而且我们的争论已有很多次。如果你是诚实者, 那么, 你就带来你所警告我们的吧。”

Italian

Essi dissero: «O Noè, tu hai discusso con noi a lungo e hai discusso con noi molte volte; portaci ora quello di cui ci minacci, se sei di quelli che dicono la verità.»

Spanish

Respondieron: “Oh, Noé, en verdad has disputado con nosotros durante mucho tiempo y has discutido con nosotros muchas veces; tráenos ahora aquello con lo que nos amenazas, si eres de los que dicen la verdad”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

انہوں نے کہا (کہ) اے نوح! تو ہم سے بحث کر چکا ہے‘ بلکہ خوب بحث کر چکا ہے اب یہی رہ گیا ہے کہ اگر تو راستبازوں میں سے ہے تو جس (عذاب) سے تو ہمیں ڈراتا ہے اسے ہم پر لے آ۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

آخر کار ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ "اے نوحؑ، تم نے ہم سے جھگڑا کیا اور بہت کر لیا اب تو بس وہ عذاب لے آؤ جس کی تم ہمیں دھمکی دیتے ہو اگر سچے ہو"

English - Sahih

They said, "O Noah, you have disputed us and been frequent in dispute of us. So bring us what you threaten us, if you should be of the truthful."

کہا اے نوح تو نے ہم سے جھگڑا کیا او ربہت جھگڑا کر چکا اب لے آ جو تو ہم سے وعدہ کرتا ہے اگر تو سچا ہے

They said, 'Noah, thou hast disputed with us and make much disputation with us. Then bring us that thou promisest us, if thou speakest truly.'

They said: 'O Noah! Surely you have disputed with us and have prolonged your dispute. Now bring upon us the chastisement that you threaten us with; do so, if you are truthful.'

They said: "O Noah, you have argued with us, and disputed at length; so bring that (retribution) you promise, if you speak the truth."

Commentary:

As in the previous verses Noah had hinted at the future prosperity of his followers and it was evident that they could prosper only if their opponents perished and thus cleared the way for their prosperity, therefore Noah’s enemies realized that the prophecy of the future prosperity of believers implied a prophecy about their own destruction. So they asked him to give up all other discussions and let them know when their threatened destruction would come to pass.
